Bachir Boumaaza (born June 9, 1980), mostly known by the online pseudonym Athene , is a YouTube personality. He is famous for being a gamer, and for using his fame in the game to raise small amounts of money for charity. He is the creator of Gaming for Good, a successful charity shop and streaming platform.
Boumaaza was born in Borgerhout, Belgium, and was raised in a religious and impoverished household. Boumaaza claims that this is the foundation on which he is engaged in a battle for social problems.
In 2000, he began a brief political career that included affiliations to the political party Young Green (Flanders), his candidacy for Agalev, and the co-foundation of the NEE political party in 2005. After the election in 2007, Boumaaza decided to break away from politics , and get started among other activities to upload videos on YouTube. The channel became very popular and collected millions of views. Since then he is known as Athene. The five-year period that followed included countless YouTube videos ranging from game content, social activism, self-development, poker, and science to his first charity project, Operation Sharecraft was launched in 2012. Sharecraft marks the beginning of his charitable endeavor, and since then he has raised over $ 22 million for charity.

Kehidupan Awal
Born in Borgerhout, Antwerp, Belgium, Boumaaza is the son of a Moroccan-Belgian couple. Both parents work in the Department of Justice. Boumaaza claims, in his book "Mijn Egotrip", that his childhood was chaotic because of the cultural differences between his mother and father. And that he's from a young age faced with social problems, including racism and poverty, which instills a sense of responsibility in him to change the existing conditions. Boumaaza at a young age was introduced into the video game, and claimed that he quickly proved to be very good in the game.

Career Politics and Activism
Boumaaza entered politics in 2000, and joined the progressive party, Young Green (Flanders). The party was a young Groen organization, formerly known as Agalev. He, at the age of 20, was chosen as a political candidate for Agalev and participated in the local elections of Belgium, 2000. After receiving enough votes, Boumaaza was elected as one of the closest elected politicians in Belgium and served as the first follower to Agelev. His political career, however, was short-lived because he was shocked by the moral damage inside the party.
Big Brother
With the intention to fight racism, Boumaaza signed up, in 2001, to join the Belgian reality TV series Big Brother. He was selected from a pool of 60,000 applicants and performed briefly in the second season of the show. He was allegedly out for racist reasons, and after the show he discussed his experiences with the Flemish nationalist Filip Dewinter. He then wrote an autobiography, at the age of 21, called "Mijn egotrip" which included his portrayal of events that took place in Big Brother.
GOOD
In 2005, Boumaaza co-founded the Dutch political organization, NEE. Boumaaza is operated as the official spokesperson and leads the organization to success. Nee is an impartial political movement for voters who are dissatisfied with the political system. Since voting is mandatory in Belgium, the NEE gives people the ability to cast a blank vote due to dissatisfaction with the political system. In terms of election, the NEE will not occupy their seats and leave them empty as a way for people to show their rejection of the political system. The NEE participated in Belgium local elections, 2006 and in Belgium federal elections, 2007 but did not receive enough votes to gain seats in the city council or senate.
IPower
Together with a group of activists in 2008, Boumaaza started a self-development movement and activist called IPOWER. This movement advocates independent thinking, action and open-mindedness, and protests against net neutrality. It, however, is very short-lived because it does not bring about lasting change.
YouTube career
Boumaaza started making YouTube videos in 2007, playing the role of an eccentric World of Warcraft player named Athene. Since then, his video has broken away from playing the role of Athene and includes personal vlogs, interviews, social and political activism, science discussions, and charitable activities. Boumaaza also complemented its online video presence by broadcasting itself live on Twitch.
Original Athene Series
The original series Athene was created in 2007, when Boumaaza played a role as a World of Warcraft player named Athene. The YouTube video "The Best Paladin of The World pwning nubs on My Heart Will Go On from Celine Dion" marks the start of the series, and catapults Boumaaza into a star, generating millions of viewers and subscribers on YouTube. The original series revolves around strange and fictional characters, Athene, and includes comments in the game World of Warcraft, where Athene often mocks other players, as well as a strange personal storyline that follows the strange Athens daily life. The series also features a complete mockumentary named "Wrath of the 1337 King" describing his absurd daily life and a delusional relationship with reality, for he can not distinguish between fact and fiction, between videogames and reality. The series lasted about two years, and slowly, when Boumaaza and his film crew focused other projects. Although the series ended in 2009, the Athene character is still a fugitive and remains widely known of the original series Athene.
Poker
In 2009, while still uploading videos to Youtube, Boumaaza decided not to follow his regular schedule to focus on poker. He managed to convert $ 5 to $ 300,000 in a year, and wrote the history of poker by playing 1 million hands in 1 month. PokerStars gambling sites also gave him sponsorship and received it on their professional team player, "Team PokerStars Online". In addition, he also participated in the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), and in 2010 was invited to PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), a televised annual poker tournament.
Healthy
In 2010, Boumaaza took a short break from YouTube to conduct new research in the field of quantum mechanics, relativity, and neuroscience. His silence from YouTube broke out in 2011 when he released a full length documentary called "Athene's Theory of Everything". Although the work has never been reviewed and not scientifically or philosophically rigorous, Boumaaza claims that the work may have implications for science and metaphysics, and much of its conclusions are supported by evidence in the field of neuroscience. He continues his scientific work, and has since released several scientific scientific videos, ranging from human psychology, physics, quantum mechanics and other topics of thought to human nature.
Together Up
Boumaaza formed an online YouTube initiative called "Together to the Top" in 2011. Boumaaza wants to promote the new YouTuber by displaying videos and offering backlinks on its YouTube channel. In addition to providing backlinks, he promises to film a private video for each of his subscribed fans and provide a link back to his channel. This movement grows in size because it gives the creators less content on YouTube.
Union for Gamers
Boumaaza helps launch Union for Gamers in 2012, in collaboration with Curse inc. Union for Gamers is a global YouTube network, created by game players for gamers, offering different benefits to independent YouTuber. By the time in 2012, independent YouTubers deal with unbreakable and illegal contracts. Boumaaza wanted to provide the gaming community with an alternative, and therefore decided within the company with Curse inc. to create Union for Gamers. Union for Gamers offers 90%, non-contractual and non-mandatory contracts that give YouTuber independent personal choice to go when they want to.
Razer sponsors
Razer offered Boumaaza a $ 500,000 sponsorship of 2011. But instead of taking his own sponsorship, he decided to sponsor the community, and was given a $ 500,000 gaming equipment, which he freed in the middle of his community. Boumaaza wants to stimulate an active community to fight issues such as poverty, hunger, and internet neutrality, and decides to reward active members of the community with Razer equipment in exchange for their efforts. In 2012, Boumaaza asked its community to raise $ 1,000,000 in 100 days for the Horn of Africa. He is at the time of fundraising for his campaign, Opsharecraft, and gives Razer equipment to people who donate or raise awareness around his goals.
Charity work
Operasi Sharecraft
In 2012, Boumaaza started Sharecraft operations to raise money for the Horn of Africa. Together with the gaming community, he managed to collect $ 1,000,000 to combat the ongoing famine crisis. Boumaaza live streaming alone, along with his friends, Reese Leysen and Tania Derveaux, for 100 days in a row to raise funds and awareness around this issue. As a way of fundraising, he and his team often produce strange activities, often requested by donors, including dancing, acting, and other unusual activities. In addition, donors and active community members are rewarded with Razer's equipment in return for their support and efforts. This is part of Boumaaza's sponsorship with Razer
The charity movement is part of DC Entertainment's charity campaign, "We Can Be Heroes", which seeks to raise awareness and funding for the ongoing hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. DC Entertainment matches all donations 100% to a million dollars and works with Save The Children, International Rescue Committees, and Mercy Corps to provide much needed assistance in the region. All donations donated during Sharecraft are directly caused and matched 100% by DC Entertainment. More specifically, its contributions through the program assist the depressed regions of the Horn of Africa and fund infrastructure projects in Mali. He achieved his donation goal directly on the main stage at DreamHack. After reaching his donation target, Boumaaza and his video crew traveled to the countryside of Mali to document and stream the charity work. The assistance involves the construction of infrastructure and medical services for the poor.
Games for Good
In 2013, Boumaaza created an online platform called "Gaming for Good" to raise money for charity Save The Children. People who donate, using the platform, will receive points they can use to redeem a video game on the "Gaming for Good" website. The game was donated by some game developers to create incentives for people to donate to charities. All donations on the platform are multiplied by the United States Agency for International Development, a United States federal government agency. In early July 2014, Gaming for Good raised nearly $ 15 million for charity. Boumaaza also gave several interviews and made appearances to promote his work and Gaming for Good, including on CNN, Bloomberg, and FOX.
Siege
In September 2013, Boumaaza and his crew coordinated a fundraising event called "Si Siege". The siege is a large community event that includes more than 50 other fundraisers, and World of Warcraft in-game events. World of Warcraft events revolve around two top guilds, Midwinter and Method, which will race each other, and try to solve specific instances of attack as quickly as possible. Fundraising is done with Boumaaza's "Gaming for Good" platform, where volunteers can create their own fundraising campaign and, together with Boumaaza, raise money for Save The Children. The campaign managed to raise over $ 2,000,000 in one weekend, four times the original $ 500,000 target.
Competition for survival
In October 2014, Boumaaza visited Children's Save the Children safety program in Ethiopia as part of their "Race for Survival" campaign. As a way of raising funds, he immediately drains himself directly from the field in Ethiopia, so people can see the impact of their donations. And although his efforts were not without help, he managed to collect 4 million for Save The Children. This marks a milestone, as Boumaaza has independently collected over 20 million charities.
His efforts are not without help, as the campaign includes several other bands, who have started their own fundraising by using "Gaming for Good". The "Gaming for good" platform has been updated, in 2014, with features that allow anyone to raise funds for "Save The Children". Boumaaza distributes Razer products to participants who start reaching certain donation targets. In addition, all donations are multiplied by a factor of 16 from USAID, an agency of the United States federal government.
Ebola
In 2015, Boumaaza goes to Liberia to raise awareness and funding for an Ebola crisis recovery. He then released a documentary about his front-line experience, entitled "The End of Ebola", which describes his experience in the affected area. Boumaaza seeks to clarify a common misconception about the disease and its consequences for victims and families. Boumaaza provided several interviews and made appearances to promote his charity work, including in Bloomberg.
Avengers
In 2015, Boumaaza assembles a humanitarian emergency response team. The team consists of a group of live streamers, better known as Avengers, who in case of category one disaster will raise funds to ease the crisis. Like most Boumaaza projects, Avengers has a close relationship with "Save The Children" because all donations are given to their program. He managed to collect about 500 ribbons that promise to raise funds.
Ethiopia Drought
In 2016, Boumaaza, and his crew, travel to Ethiopia to raise awareness and funding for Save the Children Children's Eastern Save fund. Ethiopia at that time suffered the worst drought in 50 years, affecting millions of people. As part of the Avengers project, more than 2,500 live streamers are funded. The campaign generated $ 390,000 USD to alleviate the catastrophic category one disaster.
Games for a Good Launch
In 2016, the "Gaming for Good" website was relaunched as a stream overlay and donation platform for the live streaming platform, Twitch.tv. As people often donate to streamers on Twitch, this platform gives viewers the option to support charities by donating to Save the Children. The platform also includes personal donations, allowing viewers to support the tape directly. This platform includes, among other features, an innovative video-player donation system in which viewers can contribute video to streamers.
Athene Xtreme
Boumaaza launched in 2013, a game supplement named Athene Extreme. This supplement was developed in collaboration with Mind-FX and with Razer co-founder Robert Krokoff. Boumaaza feels there is a need for a truly natural game supplement because gamers often consume unhealthy and destructive energy drinks. Athene Extreme contains a mixture of sugar, sweeteners and plant extracts that are used to increase the concentration level. 10% of all income is given to charity.
Real Podcast talk
Boumaaza throughout his career documenting his thoughts and insights about human nature, community psychology, science, and activism in his "Real Talk Podcast". While streaming on Twitch.tv, he often talks about social injustice, self-development, and other insights in the noble pursuit to inspire action to change the world among his community. This conversation has been archived and edited to various podcasts. In addition, Boumaaza also wrote a book on his mindset and vision called "Real Answer".
Singularity Group
By 2015, Boumaaza began to accept people to come and work with him. As more people join him, he creates a group called "The Singularity Group". This group consists of volunteers who want to make a difference. They have implemented projects such as Gaming for Good, charity livestreams, documentaries, etc. The group has moved the recruitment to Germany to allow the group to grow.
Destination and DUBI
In 2017, Boumaaza created two charity-based cryptocurrencies named Purpose and DUBI. Cryptocurrency is part of a nonprofit project aimed at utilizing blockchain technology to distribute a decentralized universal base income to everyone on the planet. Boumaaza plans to distribute DUBI, as a social dividend, to the world as a way to combat poverty, and provide long-term solutions for industries that increasingly rely on automation that makes human labor unnecessary. Token is an ERC20 utility token and will be integrated with future projects, including Clash of Streamers and Dubiex, fully decentralized cryptocurrency exchange.
Clash of Streamers
In 2017, Boumaaza, and its independent volunteer group, began to develop a mobile game called "Clash of Streamers". This game is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2018, and will serve as a gameforgood extension. This game will spin to assemble a group of heroes, which players can use to represent and fight other bands in exchange for in-app rewards
Dubiex.com
In 2017, Boumaaza, and its independent volunteer group, released a completely decentralized and free free cryptocurrency exchange named "DUBIex". This exchange is easy to use and works like a user interface for smart contracting on Ethereum blockchain.
