CinemaSins is a YouTube-related video channel created by Jeremy Scott and Chris Atkinson. The channel produces the Everything Wrong With... series that offers funny critiques and comments on movies. Starting January 2018, CinemaSins has more than 7.4 million subscribers and over 2.1 billion video views. The slogan is "No Movie Is Without Sin", indicating that the most loved and critically acclaimed film has its weaknesses. The founder of the channel has since established a stand-alone website, CinemaSins.com, operating in conjunction with the YouTube channel.

Histori
Scott and Atkinson met in 1999 while working as a manager in the cinema. They both shared a love for the film, with Scott having developed cinephilia in college after not being allowed to see many films as a child, and Atkinson had worked in the theater since he was a teenager. When they have dinner together, they talk through the channel. The two begin to see a new Friday release before Thursday after the theater closes, and will criticize and make jokes during the show early. On May 9, 2011, they launched the "thecussingchannel" YouTube channel containing supercuts from movies like Just the Cussing for Pulp Fiction and Just the Spells for the eighth of Harry Potter movies, as well as four parodies of Apple ads narrated by Scott. In addition to writing articles for ReelSEO, Scott founded Internet marketing company The Viral Orchard, and Atkinson wrote for his film review blog. On December 11, 2012, after several failed channel attempts, they released "Everything Wrong With The Amazing Spiderman In 2 Minutes Or Less," which garnered over 250,000 views in the first week partly because of Buzzfeed's post. Since then, they have consistently released at least two "Movie Sins" videos each week, and now work full-time on the channel. In May 2014, Scott started Jeremy's CinemaSins channel, where he created a video detailing his thoughts and critics about trends in Hollywood movies and news, as well as film reviews and the making of unholy mashups. Two other spin-off channels featuring the Everything Wrong With... format have been launched. In October 2014, Brand Sins was launched with content that highlights weaknesses in the company and in January 2015, Music Video Sins with content around sin and inconsistencies in music videos. On January 9, 2016, CinemaSins started a podcast called The SinCast where Jeremy Scott, Chris Atkinson and Barrett Share discussed various topics related to film projects and CinemaSins. As of January 2018, this channel has over 2 billion views.

Video series
Everything Wrong With...
The main CinemaSins video series, Everything Wrong With... , explores a funny particular movie, generally bad in writing, acting, direction, production value, eg deus ex machina, clichés, examples that defy logic and physics, factual errors, poor visual effects, derivatives and other content they consider "sin." Most offenses are given one sin, but sometimes more sin is given for the effect: In Everything Wrong With Phantom Threats Jar Jar Binks character was awarded 100 sins, a car jump scene in Everything Wrong With Furious 7 was awarded 1,000 sins, and Donald Trump's cameo in Everything Wrong With His Own Home 2: Lost in New York was awarded 1,000,000,000 sins. The location of the climax rescue at Fate of the Furious "destroys" the counters of sin, causing it to fail to function. However, there are times when sin is removed because of a scene that is considered very good, which replaces original sin. Everything wrong with Goldfinger has one sin taken for the opening theme, Everything Wrong With The Lion has erased a total of 8 sins, 3 because of its powerful opening, and 5 for Mufasa's Death called Cinemasins as a very brave movement for children's movies, Obi Wan's death in Everything Wrong With Star Wars (film) is the reason for the abolition of 5 sins, 5 others have been removed because the scene in which Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star, thus bringing the total number of sins removed for the film to a total of 10.
CinemaSins has been known to show great insults for certain directors, such as Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich, McG, Joel Schumacher, Zack Snyder and M. Night Shyamalan.
Each video shows a "sin count" and a "sin timer" across the screen, and ends with a "verdict" for the movie. Initial videos typically feature generic verdicts like "Hell", although they end up using words or phrases that refer to movie content, such as dialogs, settings, etc. On rare occasions, the film will start with a negative sin because of how good or because of a good decision early in the movie, such as not exposing too much to the studio logo. Frequently, the first sin listed is the total length of the logo sequence from the various production companies involved in the film. Some videos feature a "bonus round", in which additional sin (bonus round for Titanic has one sin added every time someone says "Jack" or "Rose") is added to the count for repetitive events in the movie, such as product placement example. Calculating sins rarely reflects the relative overall opinion of the viewer of the film, so their real opinions are usually made clear in the video description. These videos are almost exclusively told by Scott, except for videos of Prometheus sin, which Atkinson narrated. Other videos include special guest narrators. Video Underworld: Evolution sin featuring Matthew Santoro. The How the Grinch Steals Christmas! Video sin featured Doug Walker of Nostalgia Criticism, Iron Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video sin including Jon Bailey from Screen Junkies (the last, switch done: CinemaSins did the "Honest Trailer" of the movie, while Bailey did the video "Everything Wrong With") while Gravity , Interstellar and The Martian sin videos including Neil deGrasse Tyson as guest narrator, and the Star Wars videos of sin that included Kevin Smith as guest narrator.
Criticisms of certain stocks are used as a joke, some of which are ironic references to certain films, such as someone who "goes to school Prometheus runs away from things". Sometimes these criticisms are used in a very ironic way in the films they refer, such as the alien characters in the Signs that are sinful because they have "the same weakness as the aliens in the Sign > ".
The video "Everything Wrong With" is usually added every Tuesday and Thursday of the week. Starting mid-September 2014, in the weeks of September, CinemaSins uploads only one EWW video per week (Tuesday), and returns to the regular schedule of two videos per week in October.
When committing video sins based on other media, such as books, TV shows or video games, CinemaSins usually never refers to the source material on which the film is based, believing that the film must stand or fall on its own merits.. Their videos of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets , for example, include banners that read, "The books are not important." They make one exception to their sins of the Dragonball: Evolution video, including a bonus round in which they show sins referring to the source material.
Usually, at the end of the sin video, clips from the movie will be displayed above audio or clips from other TV shows, movies and songs with similar themes or motifs. Sometimes, they will also advertise other sponsored products such as Audible, Nature Box or Squarespace and Scott Aby , released on May 1, 2015.
The video of their sin for Death Race 2000 was done in response to a challenge by Roger Corman to commit the sin of one of his films.
The success of this channel then creates a spin-off each: Sin Music Videos and Brand Sins.
Conversation With Myself About Movies
In the Movie Owned Encounter series , Scott has a conversation with his own edited version of the movie. The "Conversations" video also includes instructions for the next "Sins" video, as well as some red fish.
Movie Recipes
Movie Recipes is a series that makes food that feels "just like a movie", usually taking elements from a movie and putting it into a recipe in a different way. The videos were a hiatus with the final from the original entry to Scott's cameo in the Nostalgic Critics review of A Christmas Story 2 . The behind-the-scenes video that featured a cameo filming featured Scott mentioning that the disgusting and possibly harmful taste of the food he produced was the reason he stopped making videos. Scott retooled the March 2016 series, with dishes prepared by professional chefs instead.
What is the Damage?
What's Damage is a video series in which CinemaSins calculates the true cost of damaged things in the movie at a price that coincides with their value at the time of release.
Podcast
In January 2016, the podcast "Sincast, presented by CinemaSins" was launched. It's hosted by Scott, Atkinson and music video writer Sanda Barrett Share. The initial episode is about half an hour, but since late 2016 most of them are about two hours. The format has changed several times since launch, but generally the trio discuss larger topics for most episodes and then round the episode by answering some questions from the listener. Topics include discussions about upcoming movies, their favorite movies in different genres, stories from the trio host's time as a revamped cinema and film classic.
On several occasions, the podcast has special guests, among them film critics Aaron Dicer, storyboard artist Jeremy Simser, film critic Jessie Maltin (daughter of Leonard Maltin) and the people behind the horror movie site Modern Horrors.
One of the longer discussion topics running on podcasts is "The best years since we were born", where the hosts voted the best films each year that have passed since 1975 (the year of Scott's birth), and the following "March Madness". In the annual NCAA tournament style, Share creates a single elimination tournament bracket with all the top selected movies of each year, to decide the best movie made since 1975. In the end, the Children of Men wins the tournament, beating Pulp Fiction in the final.
There is also the occasional "MiniPod", where the host review recently released high profile films, such as Batman v Superman, Rogue One: A Star War Story, Get Out and Dunkirk. The first half of this episode is spoiler-free, while the other half contains spoilers to allow the host into a deeper discussion of the film.
In September 2017, Scott, Atkinson, and Share appeared at the World Comic Con Wizard in Nashville and recorded their first podcast in front of the live audience. Jason Mewes and Brian O'Halloran appeared as guests on the episode.
Controversy and criticism
On October 16, 2015, Junkies Screen created a new series called "The Review Crew" where the team discussed newly released movies in the car both before and after watching the movie. Jeremy Scott was annoyed with the video and publicly accused the plagiarism channel. Screen Junkies later apologized and canceled the series.
CinemaSins has drawn criticism from several filmmakers, mostly from filmmakers whose films they have sinned in the past, including Rian Johnson, Damon Lindelof, C. Robert Cargill and Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Filmmakers agree because they fail as critics because, according to them, their excessive voting is passionate and often based on a lack of understanding. In addition, Youtuber "Bobvids" creates a series of videos that criticize certain videos of the series as well as the motivations for the series itself. However, Jeremy Scott has claimed that this series should not be entirely serious in terms of criticism and that most of its nitpicks are just comedic jokes.
On June 7, 2013, CinemaSins released "Everything Wrong With CinemaSins", a self-parody video that ridiculed filmmakers and commentators who disliked the channel and made fun of their own hosts explaining that their videos were filled with sarcasm. This video is included in the most watched video channel on 23.9 million views on March 17, 2018.
