Radical.FM is a digital music streaming service available on iOS devices, Android devices and desktop web browsers. This service allows users to create their own custom online radio station based on the music genre. Unlike other streaming services like Spotify and Pandora Radio, Radical.FM is completely free and based on donations through the pay-what-you-can model. The mobile app does not display or has an audio ad, or charges a subscription fee.
Radical.FM was founded by Thomas McAlevey, who previously launched Bandit Rock radio station and Tomsradio.com website. Radical.FM is headquartered in Venice, California.
The service was released on iTunes in August 2013, and on Android in June 2014 with a catalog of over 25 million songs.
Radical.FM claims this service relies on the human curation for the genre used to build "the best personal radio station in the world."
The company launched its desktop service in 2014.
In October 2015, the company introduced RadCasting, a private broadcast with sharing and sync music discovery, where users can broadcast and share their stations with other users, on mobile or desktop.
