Engagement Rule is an American sitcom that runs on CBS from February 5, 2007, until May 20, 2013, originally aired as a mid-season replacement. The series was produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions in collaboration with CBS Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television (SPT controls North American rights while CBS controls international rights).
The show received negative reviews throughout its journey. Nevertheless, it always gets a pretty good rating, helping the show reach 100 episodes (usually the minimum for syndication) for seven seasons.

Premise
Two couples and their single friends face complications of dating, commitment and marriage. It looks at different relationships in various stages, starring Patrick Warburton and Megyn Price as long-married couples, Oliver Hudson and Bianca Kajlich as new lovers, and David Spade and Adhir Kalyan (last added in season 3) as they still- single friends. They often gather to enjoy food and discuss their problems at "The Island Diner".

History
The show was heavily promoted by CBS during Super Bowl XLI and was launched the following night, the first of seven episodes in its first season. The inaugural episode remains the highest rated episode of the event. The series was renewed for the second season, which began as a mid-season replacement for Old Adventures of Old Christine on Monday, September 24, 2007, with production halted after nine episodes on November 6, 2007, behind the strike of the author. After the strike ended, CBS announced that the show would return on April 14, 2008, with the next six episodes.
Season three and four is a mid-season entry launched in March 2009 and March 2010. On May 18, 2010, it was announced that CBS has updated the Engagement Rules for the 5th season. It was then announced that this season would start in September, in contrast to the usual midseason start, and receive an expanded 24-episode order. (The fifth season is the first and the only season to get a full one-season order.) The first 15 episodes aired on Monday night, usually at 8:30 pm Eastern/7:30 pm Central time slot the following How I Met Your Mom . Then on February 24, 2011, the series was moved to Thursday at 8:30 pm Eastern/7:30 pm Central, following the The Big Bang Theory , after the cancellation $ h *! My Dad Says . On January 31, 2011, CBS ordered the addition of two episodes of the series to prepare for the possibility of Two and Half Men going into hiatus following real life issues Charlie Sheen, taking the sequence of episode 26 Two episodes were held back and aired as part of the sixth season.
On May 17, 2011, the series was updated for the sixth season to start airing in fall 2011. One day CBS announced that the Engagement Rules will move to Saturday night at 8:00 pm Eastern/: 00 Central as part of the new Comedytime Saturday block of networks; the first time in six years that the original CBS program will air on that night. It also marks the fourth night in which the series will air, with it aired on Mondays, Wednesdays (two broadcasters), and Thursday. On October 7, 2011, however, it was announced that the Rules of Engagement will return to 8:30 pm EST Thursday the following timeslot The Big Bang Theory , replacing the new sitcom How to Be a Gentleman moved to a new Saturday time slot. The episode sequence is cut from the original 18, down to 13 (plus two episodes not finished from season five) on 14 November 2011.
Effective January 12, 2012, CBS deleted the Rules of Engagement from the lineup on Thursday, replacing it with Rob's new sitcom Rob Rynne. The Rules will return to the Thursday time slot of 8:30 PM on March 29, after Rob finish screening 8 episodes, resulting in a total of 15 episodes in season 6
On May 21, 2012, CBS updated its Engagement Rules for the seventh season of 13 episodes to air in mid-season, bringing the number of episodes produced to 100. Season 7 starts airing on Monday at 8:30, starting 4 February 2013.
In June 2011, the series was taken for syndication by local affiliates, The CW Plus, and WGN America, debuting on September 10, 2012. On Wednesday, January 2, 2013, the series began airing working days on TBS on 2/1c. Shortly after, he moved into the early hours of the morning at 6 am. throughout the week. Until May 2016, this series has left the whole arrangement.
In Canada, this series is syndicated on the CMT.

DVD release
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment reserves the right to release DVDs in Region 1. The fifth season of the series is available from February 7, 2012, exclusively as a demand-driven release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, along with amazon.com. Similarly, the sixth season received a MOD release from an online retailer, on October 2nd, 2012. The seventh and final season has not been released on DVD and it is not known whether the series will see the completion on DVD. However, the entire series is available for purchase and download from amazon.com and iTunes Store.
Paramount Pictures, along with CBS Home Entertainment, began releasing DVD series internationally in 2011. Season One was released in the UK (Region 2 DVD) on April 4, 2011. In region 4, the entire series has been released, such as individual season sets.

Note : Following Charlie Sheen's departure from Two and Half Men , CBS ordered two additional episodes for the fifth Season Engagement Rule, bringing the total number of episodes to 26 from the initial 24 booked. Although the episodes, "Scavenger Hunt" and "Cheating," aired during the sixth season, they were originally produced for the fifth season, and included in the fifth season collection. Therefore, the DVD release in the sixth season featured 13 episodes produced during that time period, compared to 15 episodes broadcast by CBS.

Polish version
Polish Channel TVN started filming its own version of events, called Team? Y Gry (literally means Rules of the Game in Polish). It aired on February 16, 2012 on TVN sister channel TVN 7 as its first original production.
