Julie Moss (born 1958) is an American triathlete athlete. He was first known during the 1982 Ironman Triathlon, in which he competed as part of his research for the sports physiology thesis. He has stated that he did not initially take the race seriously and had no prior training. Nevertheless, he finds himself with a comfortable lead, but about two miles before the finish line, he becomes very dehydrated. He staggered and crawled toward the end of the course, only to pass the moment before the finish line by rival Kathleen McCartney. His struggle to complete Ironman was broadcast around the world, and inspired many to compete in the Ironman show.
She later married the Mark Allen triathlon.
The October 8, 2009 episode "The Score" by Diana Nyad describes the Moss' Ironman race.
The April 16, 2010 episode of WNYC's Radio Lab released a podcast in Limits that included a live interview with Moss about his Ironman experience in the Limits of the Body section.
