Plot

In 1977, the government had secretly translated the transmission, sent by the foreign Antareans, who warned of a deadly race known as Worg, came to destroy Earth. To help defend the Earth, Antareans has sent a strong fighting suit for "Champion of Earth" to wear. The government began to train a boy named Adam from birth to become the Champion. Eighty-eight years later, Officer Anthony Hagan caught Zachary "Zach" Spencer for causing trouble at a party and began to oust him, only to find Woodrow "Woody" Johnson and Herman Mendoza firing unauthorized fireworks. Herman challenged launching a large rocket that attacked the incoming UFO and caused it to fall nearby.

UFOs open to reveal the armor, and the four men each took a piece. The setting is active when all four parts are worn, and each part becomes irreversible and is genetically locked to the wearer. Zach discovers that his arm cannons can fire energy projectiles, Hagan's gloves can create an energy field, Woody's helmet improves his intelligence from time to time, and Herman's boots can make him run at super speed. The military emerges and captures the group. Angry that their preparations had been threatened and that Zach had posted the swafoto with a lawsuit (summoning four "Tim Lazer"), Colonel Emory gave Adam orders to train them in just four days, after which Worg was scheduled to arrive. Meanwhile, a group of soldiers were possessed by a small robot insect sent by Worg, and began to hunt down Team Lazer and have Mindy, Hagan's daughter.

The responsible officer decides to try and amputate the lawsuit from the team, but when taken to the hospital, they run away using the suit's ability. They were intercepted by Adam, but they worked together to create a powerful energy shield and knocked him unconscious. After escaping, they hide in the cabin of Hagan's ex-wife. Zach calls Wory-controlled Mindy on Skype and gives him his location. He came and attacked the group, but they delayed it and Woody communicated with Worg through the device behind his neck. Before they can finish the negotiations, Zach rips the device and destroys himself, destroying the cabin. They were then pursued by the possessed army, but escaped.

The team went on to the Zach and Mindy high schools, where they discovered that the Antarean ships had landed on the city's soccer field, creating a gigantic force around it. Worg sends a message, calling Champions of Earth to fight. The Lazer Team was once again ambushed by soldiers owned, but used teamwork to kill the four of them. With the pressure of saving the planet that burdened them, they all decided to hide except Hagan, who surrendered to the military. However, seeing his full potential in the team, Adam frees Hagan and they sneak into the stadium where a crowd has formed around the UFO. They found other team members there and reassembled. They hijacked a police car and rammed him into the battlefield, reaching the football pitch.

Worg's soldiers came with identical armor. Woody intercepts transmissions from the ship, revealing that instead of war they are part of an elimination tournament in which Antareans destroys the loser's planets until one remains. The Lazer Team proved unsuccessful in defeating Worg himself, so Adam began to divert his attention using anti-riot equipment from police cars. Adam was killed by Worg with dark matter rays, indirectly teaching the team how to achieve this with a lawsuit. Lazer Team and Worg fire dark matter come together, creating a vortex. Four separate suits and Tim Lazer detonated from the battlefield, but the Worg and Antarean ships were consumed. The team was greeted by a large crowd outside. Emory arrives and declares that the war is not over yet, and Tim Lazer will go into space.

Production

Development

The concept for Rooster Teeth's first direct action feature is in its development since 2010. It was first announced at Halo Fest during PAX Prime 2011. Burns stated they drew inspiration from, "many of the science fiction works we have grown," but, "not make a parody and we do not send - we make our own movies. "The effects on the script include" team movies "like The Mighty Ducks and Cool Runnings . According to co-authors Chris Demarais and Josh Flanagan, the third action was completely restructured by them a week before the filming began.

While writing the story, Burns did not imagine himself playing Hagan, saying "I tend to be the bigger type of guy, loud and talking fast... I have to really lower it to play it."

In February 2014, Burns confirmed that the company will launch a crowdfunding campaign for the film as a way to offer more support options while gaining publicity. Freddie Wong is a consultant in shaping their campaigns. Indiegogo's page for the film was launched in June 2014. Fundraising reached the $ 650,000 goal in less than 10 hours and broke Indiegogo's record for the fastest film campaign to reach $ 700,000. In three days, the Lazer Team broke $ 1 million. Lazer Team holds the record for the highest funded film campaign in Indiegogo with more than $ 2.4 million collected. On the last day of the campaign, Rooster Teeth released a special introduction to a fan who will play a role; within 20 seconds of the incident to be aired, 535 people bought the price perk, because it slowed the ticket system on the site. All 535 people are used for crowd scenes in movies. Hullum stated that the crew had been contacted by several distribution companies, media companies, and agents acting since the campaign began. Burns reinforced, explaining that film budgets increased when the campaigns made more money:

The initial budget for talent is based on making the film at a minimum with us throwing the rest of the expected budget. For example, that means using talent almost exclusively from in-house. As budgets grow, so is our chance to approach all types of talent. The same goes for Visual FX, the quality of props and costumes, lighting, crew, etc.

Casting calls and auditions for light speaking roles are held for participants in RTX 2014. Additional stowages for extras are held during filming. Blaine Gibson also auditioned for Zach's role.

Filming

The subject of photography begins on October 14, 2014. Filming takes place over 40 days in Austin and New Mexico. During the first week of production, filming took place at Austin National Guard Armory, as well as the University of Texas at Austin. Filming wrapped on December 13th. Reshoot begins at the end of February 2015.

To avoid interrupting the online video schedule Achievement of Achievements, Free and Jones pre-recorded content for a month before filming. During filming, the two came to the office, "half a day we spent" to film the video rather than sleep for a few hours before returning to the scene.
