Steven Shih Chen (Traditional Chinese: Simplified Chinese : ??? ; pinyin: ChÃÆ' à © n ShÃÆ'ìjÃÆ'ùn , born August 18, 1978) is an American Taiwan Internet entrepreneur. He was one of the founders and previous chief technology officers of the YouTube video-sharing website. Having founded the company AVOS Systems, Inc. and built the MixBit video-sharing app, he joined Google Ventures in 2014.

Early years and education
Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan. When he was eight years old, he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Prospect Heights, Illinois. He went to the River Trails Secondary School at Mount Prospect for John Hersey high school and high school education at Arlington Heights for his first year in high school. During his last three years of high school, he attended the Illinois Academy of Mathematics and Science in Aurora, Illinois. At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he studied computer science. He graduated in 2002.

Business career
Chen is an employee of the PayPal industry finance firm, where he first met Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Chen was also an early employee on Facebook, though he left after a few months to start YouTube.
In 2005, Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim, and Chen founded YouTube, with Chen holding a position as chief technology officer. In June 2006, Chen was named by Business 2.0 as one of the "50 people that matter now" in business.
On October 16, 2006, Chen and Hurley sold YouTube to Google, Inc. for $ 1.65 billion. Chen received 625,366 shares of Google and an additional 68,721 in trust as part of the sale. The Google shares he received are reportedly worth more than $ 326 million about 1 year later.
He and Hurley started AVOS Systems that acquired Delicious from Yahoo! Inc.
Chen is listed as one of 15 Asian scientists watched by Asian Scientist Magazine on May 15, 2011.
Chen Started a live streaming food network called Nom.com in 2016 along with Vijay Karunamurthy. It was recorded in 2017 that the live streaming food network was closed secretly, with its Twitter feed switched to personal and Facebook accounts that had been left blank since March 2017.
Awards
Chen was sworn in as Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois and was awarded the Lincoln Order (the highest honor of the State) by the Governor of Illinois in 2018.
Personal life
Chen married Park Ji-hyun, who is now Jamie Chen, a marketing manager of Google's Korean products, in 2009. They live in San Francisco with their two children. One boy was born in July 2010. The Chens is a major supporter of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco where Jamie was appointed guardian in July 2012.
