Critical reception
Two singles from the album are covers of Grandmaster Melle Mel's "White Lines (Do not Do not Do It)" and Lou Reed's "Perfect Day". "Lay Lady Lay" is one in Italy and in Brazil.
JD Considine of Rolling Stone says "[S] Some of the ideas played here are stunningly wrong, like the easy-listening arrangements given by" Watching the Detectives "from Elvis Costello or the" Thank You from Zeppelin "" Sounds like a band covering Chris DeBurgh. But it takes a certain crazy genius to recognize Iggy Pop's "Success" as Gary Glitter's song is meant to be or to repeat "911 Is a Joke" so it sounds more like Beck than like Public Enemy. "
"Perfect Day" was the first single from Thank You and was a moderate hit, peaking at number 28 on the UK singles chart. In the US the song almost failed to break the Billboard Hot 100, just reaching as high as # 101 from June 24th to July 8th 1995. The B side of this single is The Velvet Underground's version of the song "Femme Fatale", previously available on in 1993, at Duran Duran's The Wedding Album .
Lou Reed told an electronic press device accompanying the album that the Duran Duran version of "The Perfect Day" was "The best cover ever completed from one of my own songs".
