Plot

In June 1934, Kit Kittredge (Abigail Breslin) was determined to be a reporter, and he wrote an article on the typewriter in his attic while the drama was revealed underneath. Mortgages in his home will be confiscated because his father lost his car dealership and can not keep up with payments. She went to Chicago, Illinois to find a job, and to get her mother's income to take on a variety of dormitories, including a magician. Berk, dance instructor Miss Dooley, and driver of Miss Bond's traveling library.

Locally there are reports of robberies and robberies allegedly committed by homeless people. Kit investigates and meets the young Will and Countee, who live in a hobo forest near the Ohio River and Erie Lackawanna Railway. Kit writes stories about the camp and tries to sell it to Tn. Gibson, a meaningful editor of the Cincinnati newspaper, but he was not interested in the subject. He adopted a dog, his mother bought a chicken, and Kit sells their eggs.

Then a locked box containing her mother's treasures was stolen, and a footprint with a star matched by what Will found, made her a prime suspect. Sheriff goes to find Will and Countee. However, Will and Countee have left the forest of hobo. Kit, Stirling and Ruthie then set out to investigate the incidents and clear Will's name. Then it was Mr. Berk, along with his assistants Frederich and Miss Bond, are actually the people behind the robbery, framing Will and the rest of the homeless for crime. Kit then becomes a local hero. They find that the Countee has pretended to be a man. On Thanksgiving day, the homeless bring food to Kit's mother and Kit's father comes home. Tn. Gibson arrives to show Kit that she's being printed in Cincinnati's main daily newspaper.

Development

The ideas of feature films that may revolve around the characters have been discussed by the company for several years, although American Girl President Ellen L. Brothers stated that "it's all new to us", and should explore the viability of action films by producing adaptations that made for American Girl character television. After the success of Samantha: An American Girl Holiday and continuing TV movies, several options were considered to make the transition to theatrical features.

Film production, involving script and cast, major film and photography preparations, takes about four months due to limitations on the part of Abigail Breslin's availability before another production start. The camera angle is also considered, with film crews being careful not to photograph an area or object at a designated location that would be out of place in the 1930s. Multi-camera settings are also used to speed up the process. Films were made in and around Toronto, and in Tottenham, Ontario in the summer of 2007.

The costume department uses old photographs by Dorothea Lange and the old Sears-Roebuck catalog to create the depression era-era casting clothes. Since the Kittredge family will spend less for extra clothing, the costume is made by using emery and trisodium phosphate, dulling the clothing color to give the impression of older and worn out.

Among the few vehicles used in the film, some 1934 Chrysler Airflows were used, one of which was encouraged by Kit's father. In addition to Airflow, Plymouth 1933 green sedan and some Dodge DP 1933 are also used. The parking lot was described as a Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge dealer in Cincinnati in 1934. An antique streetcar 'Peter Whit' Toronto Transit Commission stood for the City of Cincinnati one.

On April 29, 2011, review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 79% of critics gave positive reviews of the movie, based on 98 reviews, and gave it the Golden Tomato for Best Kids Film of 2008. Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 63 out of 100, based on 27 reviews.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times said, "It has a great look, an interesting show, a real substance and even some whisper of political ideas", and in The New York Times. , Jeannette Catsoulis said, "this heart-to-heart class movie is packed with laudable living lessons." Elizabeth Weitzman of the New York Daily News called it "very old-fashioned" and thought "the script feels a bit stiff and moral at certain times," but added, "it's hard to blame a film with an intelligent and kind-hearted heroine. "Megan Basham of World Magazine says," Even if young fans can not relate the struggle in movies with their own lives, the Kit still offers more than just shows and movies. for the tween girl market In addition to the simple educational value of giving them an idea to connect with their history lessons, the film also focuses on a more important theme of materialism and beauty being championed. "

A disadvantageous review came from James Verniere of The Boston Herald, calling the movie "one dimensional" and saying "I have no argument with empowering themes devoted to audiences of girls." I do, however, the exceptions for a superficial and predictable plot and a show that runs the whole from just OK to easy to resurrect, "Josh Larsen of Illinois newspaper The Sun also gave Kittredge a negative review, bemoaning the plot the film as humbling to its target audience, declared "Kittredge Kit: An American Girl" would be the perfect film for people aged 6- to 9 years who are historical-minded if it is not aimed at the intellectual level of toddlers, "
