Hyde is known for his involvement in several public jokes and internet hoaxes. His humor style is also described as post-ironic, as he regularly blurs the differences between himself and his character.

Biography

Hyde enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University for a year before moving to the Rhode Island Design School, where he graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in film, animation, and video.

In August 2016, Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace , a Hyde television program co-authored and acted in conjunction with other MDE members, premiering on Adult Swim. Four months later, it was announced that World Peace would not be renewed for the second season. Hyde linked the event's cancellation with his vocal backing for President Donald Trump.

Then in 2016, Hyde publishes How to Bomb the US Government, a comedy book he wrote with Rochefort, Carroll, and others.

Pranks

Hyde railed off an American anime fandom in 2012 when he delivered a fake presentation entitled "Samurai Swordplay in the Digital Age" under the pseudonym "Master Kenchiro Ichiimada" at a convention in Vermont. During the presentation, the MDE affiliates blocked the exit door to block attendees from leaving for an hour.

Similarly, in 2013, Hyde, while wearing a maroon sportswear and clothed in armor and a lively chest, delivered a TEDx chat titled "2070 Paradigm Shift" at Drexel University. The talks described by Forbes as satirical imitations of the "Brooklyn technology hipster," received significant media attention. When asked about the intent of the joke, Hyde expressed his displeasure for TED talks, calling them "truly self-congratulatory."

In 2014, Hyde started a fake Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the creation of a "dating horse simulator" for bronies, adult male fans of the children's television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The Kickstarter page says the simulator will consist of "a journey that spans multiple continents" and includes an "inner RPG element." Event enthusiasts who seem to take a serious project promised a total of $ 4,161 to a fake fundraiser before Hyde canceled it.

In 2017, Hyde reportedly pledged $ 5,000 for defense law fund Andrew Anglin, founder and editor of The Daily Stormer . The Center for Southern Poverty Law sued Anglin for allegedly organizing a "troll" against a Jewish woman in Montana. When Matt Pearce of the Los Angeles Times questioned Hyde about the donation, Hyde asked Pearce if he was a Jew and then said that $ 5,000 was "nothing" to him. Hyde also stated: "Do not worry about money, worried if people start deciding to kill journalists. That is a quote. For the reason why, you can say I want reporters to know I make more money than them, especially Matt Pearce."

Take a photo of hoax

Since 2015, Hyde has been reported as a perpetrator of various mass shootings and terrorist attacks by internet trolls on websites such as 4chan and Twitter. The hoax, which usually includes photographs of Hyde brandishing assault rifles, has reappeared so often on social media that The New York Times marked "Sam Hyde is a shooter" as an "identifiable meme." The first example of the joke was the shooting of Umpqua Community College. CNN incorrectly inserted Hyde's image on their coverage of the shootings. Hyde has also been blamed in error for San Bernardino 2015 attack, UCLA 2016 shooting, Orlando firing of 2016 club night, Alton Sterling shooting, suspicious death of a black man in Piedmont Park, Atlanta, Paris attack 2015, 2016 Munich shooting, Kalamazoo shootings 2016, Finsbury Park 2017 attacks, Las Vegas 2017 shootings, Sutherland Springs 2017 church shootings, and shoots at the 2018 YouTube office.
