Sivan was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, son of Laurelle and Shaun Mellet. Her family moved to Australia when she was two years old due to the increasing crime in South Africa. Sivan grew up in Perth, Western Australia with his parents and three siblings Steele, Tyde and Sage. His father is a real estate agent and his mother is a housewife. He is a Jew; his father was born from a Jewish family and his mother moved to Judaism. Sivan attended Carmel School, a private private Orthodox school, until 2009 when he started his distance education. Troye's middle name is "Sivan" and he embraced her as his stage name.

Sivan's music career began when he sang on the 2006 Telethon Channel, 2007 and 2008. His 2006 appearances included a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian. TRXYE ' trilogy follows the narration of two gay teenagers in a secret relationship while "Wild" shows Sivan with another flower-like man. The music video for "Heaven ft. Betty Who" shows footage of LGBTQ's movements and historic couples, as well as sensual photos with her and an unnamed man with a tagline that goes "Without losing some of me, how can I get to Heaven?" And "If I lost some of me, maybe I do not want Heaven ". In 2007, Sivan served as Oliver Twist in the production of Oliver! at Regal Theater. In 2008, Sivan was cast in the West Australian short film, Betrand the Terrible . Sivan shared the role of "Boy" with Craig Hyde-Smith, alternating nights. In June 2012, Sivan returns to South Africa to film Spud 2: The Madness Continues, released in South Africa on June 21, 2013.
