A few years later, Ella's father remarried with Lady Tremaine, the widow of an old acquaintance, who has two daughters, Drisella and Anastasia. Ella welcomes her new stepfamily, despite the unpleasant attitude of the stepbrother. When Ella's father goes abroad on business, Lady Tremaine slowly reveals her cruel and jealous nature, as she pushes Ella to give her bedroom up the stairs up to the attic. When Ella's father suddenly died during the trip, Lady Tremaine refused the household to save money and force all work on Ella. One morning, when her stepfather saw Ella's face covered with ash because she slept in the fireplace for warmth, they taunted Ella as "Cinderella" and forbade her to eat with them.

Destroyed by their cruelty, Ella goes to the forest, where she meets Kit, the crown prince, disguised as a court apprentice, along with her hunting party. Though Ella is unaware of Kit's original identity, they both like each other. Two parts without Kit learn Ella's name. The King, knowing that he had little time to live, insisted on Kit that, for the benefit of the kingdom, he had to bring a princess to his bride at the upcoming dance party. Kit persuades his father to also invite every eligible girl in the kingdom to the ball, hoping to see Ella again.

After receiving a notice about the ball, Ella finds a dress that used to belong to her deceased mother and decides to fix it for the ball. On the eve of the party, Ella tries to join the stepfamily, but Lady Tremaine and her daughter rip her shirt to pieces and leave without her. Ella ran into the park crying and met an elderly lady beggar, who revealed herself as the Fairy Mother. To help Ella attend the party, her Godmother Fairy magically transformed the pumpkin into a golden cart, four mice into a white horse, two lizards being knights, and a goose into the coachman. She then transforms Ella's torn dress into a beautiful blue dress, complete with a pair of miraculous glass slippers. When Ella goes to the dance, the Fairy Lady will warn her that the spell will break in the last attack of midnight. Finally, he read a spell to keep Ella's stepmother and stepbrother away from recognizing her.

At the ball, all the courts were captivated by Ella when she appeared. Ella and Kit went on to perform their first dance. This greatly disappointed Grand Duke, who had promised Kit to Princess Chelina from Zaragoza, a comment Lady Tremaine overhears. While shocked by Kit's original identity, Ella continues to be tied to her, walking around to the palace. When Ella was about to tell Kit his name, Ella heard the clock start to ring at midnight and run away. As he escapes from the castle, one of his sandals falls. After being chased by the Grand Duke and his men, Ella manages to escape to the house before the last stroke in the middle of the night bells, causing the charm to fade. Upon returning home, Ella hides the remaining glass shoe left under her bedroom floor.

The king soon died thereafter, but before giving permission to his son to marry Ella. Now King, Kit issued a royal proclamation order ordering every girl in the kingdom to try sandals in an attempt to find the girl. Ella hurriedly picked up the glass shoe to prove her identity, only to find her stepmother holding her. After concluding that Ella is a mystery princess, Lady Tremaine tells her stepdaughter of her tragic past and the bitter consequences it has caused her life. He blackmailed Ella to be head of the royal family and that a respectable husband was found for the half-brother, as a condition of giving Ella's hand in marriage to Kit. When Ella refuses to fulfill her request, Lady Tremaine destroys her shoes and locks Ella in the attic. Lady Tremaine then takes the remains of damaged shoes to the Grand Duke, and manipulates her to agree to make her a countess and secure a marriage for her daughter, in exchange for keeping Ella hidden.

The Grand Duke and the palace guard captain lead the mission to find the mystery princess, but the sandals refuse to match the other girls. When they arrived at Tremaine's estate, the shoes did not fit the stepsisters. As they turned to leave, Ella's singing on Lavender's Blue was heard. Grand Duke tries to ignore this, but Kit, posing as a guard, orders the captain to investigate. Refusing Lady Tremaine's attempt to stop her, Ella reunited with Kit. They leave home when Ella offers her apology to her stepmother. After that, the Fairy Godmother states that Ella's and Grand Duke's stepchildren were exiled from the kingdom, never to return.

Production

Development

In May 2010, following the box office success of Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland , which was the second best-selling film of 2010 and earned more than $ 1 billion at box office worldwide, Walt Disney Pictures began to flourish. adaptation of a new movie from Cinderella , commissioned a live-action reimagining based on a script by Aline Brosh McKenna and produced by Simon Kinberg. In August 2011, Mark Romanek was brought in to direct. On February 29, 2012, it was announced that Chris Weitz would revise the McKenna script. In January 2013, Romanek left the project due to creative differences, as he developed a darker version than Disney wanted. Later that month, Disney negotiated with Kenneth Branagh to take over as director.

Cate Blanchett was the first actor to sign the contract, when it was announced in November 2012 that she would portray Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's evil stepmother. In March 2013, Emma Watson is in talks to describe Cinderella, but the deal can not be settled. Gabriella Wilde, Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander, Bella Heathcote and Margot Robbie are also considered for that part, but the deal can not be resolved due to scheduling and other conflicts.

On April 30, 2013, Lily James plays the title character. A week later, Richard Madden plays the Prince Charming, who is named Kit in the film. In June 2013, it was reported that Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera joined the film as two evil stepbrothers, Anastasia and Drisella. Later that month, Helena Bonham Carter was elected Fairy Lady. In August 2013, Hayley Atwell and Ben Chaplin joined the cast to play Cinderella's mother and Cinderella's father. In September 2013, the role of Stellan SkarsgÃÆ' Â rd as Grand Duke was confirmed. On September 23, 2013, it was announced that Derek Jacobi was cast as King, Prince Kit's father, and Nonso Anozie as the Captain, a loyal friend of the Prince.

According to Walt Disney Pictures production president Sean Bailey, studio chairman Alan F. Horn wants to make a "definitive Cinderella film for future generations," and tells him that "if you need to spend a little more, spend it, that's one for the time capsule. "

Costume

Three times Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell is responsible for the costumes for the film. Powell began working on concepts for characters' performances almost two years before the main photo shoots began in the summer of 2013. Powell said he was aiming to find "nineteenth-century movies made in the 1940s or 1950s."

For stepmother and stepbrother, Powell has a very clear idea of the look; "They're meant to be really ridiculous on the outside - a bit too much and overdone - and ugly on the inside." The prince's silhouette comes from the original animation, but it creates a more fitting look and less masculine color. Some of the prince's costumes were dyed to accentuate Madden's eyes.

The party dress is inspired by the Disney animated film in its colors and shapes; "The dress should look beautiful when she dances and runs off the ball, I want her to look like she's floating, like a watercolor painting." The dress was made with more than a dozen fine fabrics, bodice and skirts. Nine Cinderella dress versions are designed, each with over 270 meters of fabric and 10,000 crystals. It took 18 tailors and 500 hours to make each outfit.

The wedding dress is a difficult project. "Creating a wedding dress is a challenge... Instead of trying to make something even better than a party dress, I have to do something completely different and simple... I want the whole effect to be transitory and just fine, so we go with an extreme corset with a long train, "Powell said. It took 16 people and 550 hours to complete the sutra-organza, hand-painted dress. When the crew photographed James in a dress, the actress stood too close to the electric heater and the dress was on fire; the top layer of the dress must be reworked because only one wedding dress is made due to time and budget constraints.

For the glass shoe, Powell took inspiration from the 1950s shoes he saw in the museum. Because the glass is not shiny, they decided to use the crystal instead. Swarovski partnered with Disney to make famous shoes. Powell went straight to Swarovski's headquarters in Austria to see a product developer. It took 6 digital renderings from the shoes until they found the right one for the movie. Swarovski made eight pairs of crystal shoes for the film, though nothing really works. As a result, the leather shoes worn by James on sets must be digitally converted into crystals. Along with sandals, Swarovski provides more than 7 million crystals used in costumes and 100 tiara for the ball scene.

Filming

The subject of photography at Cinderella begins on September 23, 2013. The film was taken at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, where Disney Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Maleficent is also filmed, and in various other locations including Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle, Cliveden, Old Royal Naval College, and Black Park. Although the royal court was primarily a computer generated, it has been modeled after Zwinger in Dresden, Germany.

Postproduction

Post-production begins in December 2013, and finishes in August 2014. The finished film is rated PG for "light theme elements" by the American Film Film Association. In the UK, the film received the U classification for "very light emotional distress scenes" by the British Board of Film Classification.

Enchanted or The Princess Bride .But even though this will never replace Disney's classic animation, it's not an ugly stepbrother, but a worthy friend. "Guy Lodge from < i> The Guardian gave the movie three stars out of five and said, "While it might be nice to see the new model Cinderella follow Frozen progressive leader, semi -feminist, naff film, romantisme aw et-in-amber is its charm. Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal praised James' and Blanchett's performances, devices, costumes, and minimal digital effects, as well as Branagh's directions, stating that he "sets the tone of continuous fantasy that often affects, often funny, rarely cloying, almost free of self-comment and completely free of irony. "Similarly, Claudia Puig from USA Today praised the show along with Branagh and screenwriter Chris Weitz to" underlie this romantic story with sincerity in the middle -still fascinating. " Los Angeles Times ' Betsy Sharkey praised Blanchett and James' performances and regarded the film as "a poetic, if not prophetic, and imaginable fairy tale" book because of its sincerity, humor , lack of modern pretensions, and Branagh's "single focus". Robert Barron writes that because of Branagh's traditional story of the story, "he really allows the spiritual character - which is specifically Christian - of the story to emerge."
