Freemake Video Converter is a freemium entry-level video editing application (regardless of its name) developed by Ellora Assets Corporation. The program can be used to convert between video formats, copy DVD videos, create photo slideshows and visualize music. It can also burn compatible video streams to DVD or Blu-ray Discs or upload them directly to YouTube.
Although named "free", if the user does not pay money, the large Freemake Logo is watermarked in the middle of the entire video (making it useless) and the conversion speed is also cut in half.

Features
Regardless of its name, Freemake Video Converter is an entry-level video editing application. It can perform simple non-linear video editing tasks, such as cutting, rotating, flipping, and merging multiple videos into one file with transition effects. It can also create photo slideshows with background music. Users can then upload this video to YouTube.
Freemake Video Converter can read most video, audio, and image formats, and output to AVI, MP4, WMV, Matroska, FLV, SWF, 3GP, DVD, Blu-ray, MPEG and MP3. The program also prepares videos supported by various multimedia devices, including Apple devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad), Xbox, Sony PlayStation, and Samsung, Nokia, BlackBerry and Android mobile devices. The software is capable of burning DVDs and can convert videos, photos, and music into DVD video.
The user interface is based on Windows Presentation Foundation technology. Freemake Video Converter supports NVIDIA CUDA technology for H.264 video encoding (starting with version 1.2.0).

Important updates
Freemake Video Converter 2.0 is a major update that integrates two new functions: tearing videos from online portals and creating and burning Blu-ray Discs. Version 2.1 applies user suggestions, including support for translation, ISO image creation, and DVD to DVD/Blu-ray conversion. With version 2.3 (formerly 2.2 Beta), support for DXVA has been added to speed conversion (up to 50% for HD content).
Version 3.0 adds support for creating HTML5 videos and new presets for smartphones.
Version 4.0 (introduced in April 2013) adds an additional "freemium" Gold Package feature that can be added if "donations" are paid. Starting with version 4.0.4, released on August 27, 2013, the program adds a promotional watermark at the end of each video for more than 5 minutes unless Gold Pack is activated. Version 4.1.9, released on November 25, 2015 adds support for Drag & amp; Drop functions that are not available in previous versions.
Since version 4.1.4 (December 2017), the Freemake Welcome Screen was added at the beginning of the video and a large Freemake Logo was watermarked in the middle of the entire video. This makes free output useless and users are forced to pay money or stop using it.
Permissions issues
FFmpeg has added Freemake Video Converter v1.3 to Hall of Shame . The issue tracking entry for this product, opened on December 16, 2010, says it violates the GNU General Public License for distributing FFmpeg project components without including credit. Ellora Assets Corporation has not responded.
Sponsorship software package
Since version 4.0, the Freemake Video Converter installer includes a potentially unwanted search toolbar from Conduit and SweetPacks malware. While users may reject software during installation, the opt-out option is grayed out which may mistakenly suggest that it is disabled.
