Season summary

Season One (2012)

The first season Internet Icons debuted on YouTube channel YOMYOMF on June 12, 2012. The event was hosted by Chester See, and judged by the YouTube personality of Ryan Higa and television star Christine Lakin. For auditions, contestants living in America must send a video to YOMYOMF crew, which then narrows them down to rank 100. In Los Angeles Center Studios, Higa and Lakin then get rid of many of the contestants for the top ten. Tenth contestants then made a new type of new video every day until only two contestants left. Throughout the assessment in the competition, there are various guest judges, many of whom are popular YouTube personalities, including Andrew Garcia, Dominic Sandoval, Joe Penna, Dave Days, Kassem G, Jenna Marbles, Brice Beckham and David Fickas.

The final battle between Lana McKissack, a solo female contestant, and Brothers Riedell, consisting of Chris and Nick Riedell, who consistently became the favorite contestants with the judges. The Brothers Riedell eventually won the competition, becoming the first "Internet icon".

Season Two (2013)

The second season Internet Icons debuted on YouTube channel YOMYOMF on 21 May 2013. Chester See was replaced as host by Chris Riedell, the winner of the first season with his brother Nick Riedell, who returned as a mentor to the contestants. The jury panel saw the return of Higa and Lakin, with the addition of Timothy DeLaGhetto. For the second season, contestants from the US and Canada sent their video to YOMYOMF crew, which again narrowed to the top 100. However, unlike the first season, the contestants must show the original video in front of the jury, which is then immediately determined whether they will continue the competition or will be eliminated. It should be noted, that during the preliminary round of 100 contestants, the jury comments mostly positive, with rare inter-judges.

After many eliminations, the judges eventually narrowed the contestants to the 10th rank. Like the first season, the ten contestants then went on to create different types of videos until they were narrowed down to the top three. Like the first season, there are many guest judges throughout the competition, including Wong Fu Productions, Phillip DeFranco, Kassem G, Fine Brothers, Shane Dawson, Justine Ezarik, Smosh, Jenna Marbles, and PewDiePie. Justin Lin and Kevin Wu also appear as guest counselors to the contestants.

The final battle of the second season was between Kloons, who consistently impressed the judges with their humorous video, Bad Weather Film, who had made the judges impressed by the use of their character in their video, and Matthias, who had previously impressed judges with his musical talents. The winner was finally revealed in the final of life as Matthias. GigaOM mentions Matthias' "MTV-worthy video."

In the second season, Truth Orange holds a competition where viewers can choose their favorite contestants from the top ten (not including the top three contestants), which will be guaranteed a spot in the third season of Internet Icons . In the live final, fan favorites are revealed to be Will Pacarro, who finished fourth in the second season.

Cancellation

Season three was originally planned for 2014, with season two contestant Will Pacarro due back with a guaranteed position in the top ten. However, in March 2014, Pacarro confirmed that the third season was canceled, due to lack of funds.
