An Ivy League , also known as Harvard Clip or Princeton , is a type of crew cut in which the hair on the top of the head is long enough to be stylish with a section side. Upper hair length and shorter graduation rate, from front rear hairline, vary with skull shape, hair density and roughness, and individual styling preferences: side side crew cuts, standard crew cuts, brushed forward.
On one individual the length and graduation rate of the upper hair may run from one and a half inches in the front hairline, up to one and a half inches in the crown. In other individuals, the length and graduation rate may run from one and a quarter inches across the front hairline to an inch in the crown. Hair on the sides and back of the head is usually tapered short, semi-short, medium. An Ivy League is traditionally prepared with a hair control candle commonly referred to as butch wax.

Styling
When worn with the side and with the top of the hair brushed aside, the Ivy League can be styled with or without short bangs that are brushed upwards to form a short front pompadour. Other options include styling the hair as standard crew pieces or as an advanced brush with short bangs and remaining upper hair brushed forward.
An Ivy League and front brush are the same long haircut with the difference being that the front brush is specifically designed to be worn with short bangs and the upper hair brushed forward. Haircuts like the Ivy League, designed to be brushed into more than one style can be called a convertible haircut.
