Personal life
Thomas Sanders was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and still lives there today. Although he does not reveal much about his family or personal life, he clarifies his pride in the overwhelming Catholic heritage of Ireland. Sanders has a younger brother, Shea, and two older brothers, Patrick and Kristen. Thomas was two years older than Shea, and eight years younger than his older siblings. His interest in theater and singing began when he was in high school, where he began performing in school dramas and singing in several choruses. Then, Sanders combines his studies at the University of Florida (located in Gainesville) with a community theater. When he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering in 2011, he then combined daytime work in an engineering firm with his nightly work in the theater, until his success at Vine prompted him to leave his first job and focus on Vine and theater.
After several years of speculation from viewers about his sexuality, which, during the Vine era, was reflected ambiguously in his work, on June 12, 2017, Sanders came out as gay, and clarified that all the time he described straight, gay or bisexual relationships in his videos, playing character. Sanders says that, even though he's "out before Vine" and he will not mind going out more clearly before, because he answered honestly to anyone who asked him about it, he did not consider showing real-life sexuality on Vine, because he does not consider it relevant to comedy, preferring to "switch roles" whenever he has a chance, but also because of Vine's limitations, saying that the YouTube platform gives him more freedom to get out of his character and talk more freely about himself. Still after the exit, many viewers continue to speculate on his hypothetical bisexuality, so he must clarify over and over that whenever he plays "sexually attracted sexuality," he plays the character, clarifying again that he is gay instead of bisexual instead of "bi- curious ", just gay.

YouTube
Thomas Sanders made his first move online long before Vine, as an anonymous YouTube video editor in 2007, when he was 18, made AMV using Kingdom Hearts footage, using the Roxas424 username, using the old Windows Movie Maker as an editing tool. Five of these videos, in which Sanders never reveals his face or identity, although he mentions in the description of some of his early theatrical works, such as he starred in the High School Musical stage production, are still available by 2018 on the YouTube channel, although the channel, which has almost no thousands of views in 2018, has not had any activity since 2007, and remains largely unclear until Sanders revealed in late 2016 he was the creator of this video during a YouTube collaboration on the Ben J. Pierce channel. Sanders then confirmed in May 2018 the exact location of the channel when asked on his own official Twitter account.
Sanders opened his official YouTube account on March 15, 2009. There are no registers at this time when he published his first YouTube video there, or how many videos he published between 2009 and 2014. The oldest video available in 2018 was published on 1 May 2013, and that is the cover of the later "Cup Song" viral. There is a reference on Sanders' official Twitter account in a message from the second half of 2013 that he uploaded several YouTube videos at the time, mostly composed of full-length covers, but of all, only two YouTube covers from 2013 and 2014 remain available by 2018 Any YouTube videos published before October 2014 are later removed except those mentioned and three plays in Vine style but more than 6 seconds. In October 2014, when he was designated a Vine star with several million followers there, he announced the official "debut" of his YouTube channel. She began including opening with title sequences and intro songs before each video, and began publishing her monthly Vines compilation, a vlog where she talked about various topics, many times about her experience in the theater, and Q & amp answers questions. A from his book. followers sent to him via Vine and Twitter. She has her first YouTube collaboration through 2015, which consists of jokes, games, and challenges. Until 2014, the number of subscribers grew at a lower rate, with around 80,000 subscribers by the end of that year. Since that date, the growing number of users has begun to increase progressively, having 200,000 subscribers by April 2015 and over 700,000 by the end of 2015.
From the second half of 2016, at the same time his Vine activity slightly diminished following Twitter's announcement about closing Vine's closure, Sanders announced he would focus on his YouTube content ever since. In this way, he started publishing more YouTube videos in a more diverse format. He retains the games and challenges as well as Vine monthly, then compilations Sanders Shorts, but also includes song performances, both solos and duets, cultural and social justice debating with special support for LGBTQ issues or race and gender equality topics; short films, comedy sketches, web series such as Sanders Sides and Cartoon Therapy show with audience participation such as Real or Fake Anime or < Voices of Unreason and occasional live broadcasts, among other formats. Traditional Vlogs, though not completely removed, go through long hiatuses between entries and are mostly replaced by Sanders Sides as a way of talking about topics and problems with their audience. Sanders' YouTube Account surpassed 1 million subscribers around August 2016, and 2 million in July 2017. As of June 2018, the channel has 2.6 million subscribers.
Sanders and Vines was the main theme of the reactions on the episode of YouTube Fine Brothers' Kids React event in April 2015, and a year later, in October 2016, he made several guest appearances as a reactor. on the Fine Brothers show YouTubers React . Among others, he has collaborated with Hannah Hart (later on, on My Drunk Kitchen episodes), Nathan Zed, Anthony Padilla, Brizzy Voice, Lilly Singh, Jon Cozart, Grace Helbig, Gabe Erwin, Smosh , Michaela Dietz, Meghan Tonjes, Gabbie Hanna, The Gregory Brothers, dodie and Ben J. Pierce, and, as with Vine, Joan Stokes, Talyn, Dominic Goldberg, and other Sanders friends and other stage actors.
Sanders Side
Since October 19, 2016, Thomas Sanders runs on the YouTube web series, Sanders Sides, co-written with Joan Stokes, where he discusses personal or existential issues with four characters, collectively known as titular "The Sanders Side ". In the series, Sanders Sides is a "physical mental projection" of Thomas's mind, and represents a different aspect of Thomas's only personality. Sanders repeatedly made this clear when he saw some viewers calling them "personalities", as if Thomas were described as having dissociative identity disorder, which is something different from what Sanders wants to portray in the series, comparing the series instead for Inside Out , a film that Sanders claims as an inspiration for Sanders Sides. Sanders Sides consists of two seasons with a total as of June 2018 of 26 episodes released in variable periodicity, but generally on average every two weeks. Season 1 has 19 episodes released from October 19, 2016 to July 19, 2017. Season 2 begins on September 1, 2017 and in June 2018, it has 7 episodes. Sanders sides are usually all played by Sanders themselves, although sometimes they have also been played by Joan Stokes, Valerie Torres, Terrence Williams Jr. and Talyn. Stokes and Talyn also collaborate extensively with Sanders in series production, researching the main topics of each episode, drawing props, decorating sets, designing and sewing multiple costume pieces, performing some makeup, and helping with editing and visual effects. Sanders Sides sometimes feature guest appearances such as Lilly Singh or Butch Hartman who, in addition to appearing as himself, creates a special animation sequence for Sanders Sides in which Thomas and Sides- his being a cartoon character. Tara Strong, who has appeared in several Vines and Sanders Shorts, also made a cameo sound on Hartman's episode.
In the series plot, Thomas started each episode as an ordinary vlog about a particular topic or dilemma. Sometimes he was distracted by Sanders Side who appeared in front of him, and sometimes Thomas called them to ask for help. However, this begins a debate in which each Sisi offers its point of view according to the personality traits it represents, until they all reach a conclusion, both for Thomas and for the viewers. All of this combined with the funny, dramatic or thrilling jokes and moments that took place between Thomas and Sisi. Some of the dilemmas covered by this series include how to reduce anxiety, things and tricks to learn to become better adults, how to approach someone romantically, when to listen to the mind or heart in our daily lives. , cognitive distortions and ways to avoid them, causes and solutions for procrastination, how to become an adult does not mean surrendering an inner child entirely, dealing with changes in life, how anxiety is needed in the right dose for human life, fitting in life, ways face romantic separation, and the ways and consequences of lying.
Sanders Sides' names are Logan, Patton, Roman and Virgil princes, although initially they are known respectively as Logic, Morality or Father, Creativity or Prince, and Anxiety until they reveal their names one by one. Logan is Thomas's logical thinking, his intelligence, and his acquired knowledge. She has the appearance of a high school teacher, wearing a black polo shirt, a blue tie and Warby Parker sunglasses. He is based on Aristotle's concept of Logos , one of three persuasion modes that appeal to logic and reasoning. Patton is Thomas's morality, right and wrong, his emotions, his feelings, and his inner child. He had the typical American family fathers' looks, dressed in a blue polo shirt, a cardigan tied over his shoulders and sunglasses, Warby Parker sunglasses with the same Logan spots. He is based on the concept of Pathos, also by Aristotle, one of three modes of persuasion, this one of interest to emotion. Roman is the creativity of Thomas, his mortality, his hopes and dreams, his romance and his love for singing. She has the appearance of a Disney fairy tale, wearing a white 19th-century royal suit with gold ornaments on her shoulders and a red line that crosses her chest, and sometimes she sees katana as the weapon of her choice. He is based on the concept of romanticism for romanticism and Romanticism, an artistic movement involving the story of a knight and princess as one of his themes. Finally, Virgil is Thomas's anxiety, his fear, his fighting reflex or flight, and his survival instinct. She saw the appearance of an emo teenager, dressed in a black shirt, a dark gray hoodie, her hair all over her face and eyeshadow under her eyes. Its name is based on the Latin name of Vergilius which, although it is an unknown meaning, the theorist is derived from "vigilant" or "wary", and also to the Roman poet Virgil, who appears as a character on Dante's Inferno , a video game based on Dante's Divine Comedy , where he escorted Dante through the Underworld.
Logan, as Thomas's logic, always shows a serious attitude, is too analytical, and has difficulties to process emotions, expressions of double meanings and slang words, usually taking things that other people tell him too literally, and requiring the use of vocabulary cards in where he wrote their various meanings to be able to follow up the conversation. Patton, as his morality, is portrayed as a father, something ironic, because he also represents a child in Thomas, he is portrayed with the thoughts of a child who is pure, cheerful, and easily distracted despite being a father in the team. She is also portrayed with love for a father's joke, something that Logan can not stand. He is portrayed as very emotional and is one of the more Virgil-loving Sides, to unilaterally adopt him as "his strange strange son". Roman, as Thomas's creativity and delicacy, is always vulnerable to unrealistic behavior and, because he represents Thomas's masculinity and femininity, he usually speaks in a theatrical masculine voice, but screams like a woman when suddenly frightened (his screams are given by Talyn) , and sometimes shows a subtle feminine voice and likes things that people usually consider feminine. He is also portrayed as having a narcissistic personality, but continues to work for self-control. Virgil, as Thomas's anxiety, acted as an antagonist in his previous performance, as he represented Thomas's negative thoughts about himself, then became a sound but with a fatalistic stance. He and Roman are described as having an on and off relationship, where Roman constantly throws nicknames for Virgil and Virgil also throws some in Rome as well. In the first season, Virgil was described as feeling isolated and undesirable by the team and truly thanked Patton for being the only one from the other side to receive it from the start. In the second season, after the first season finale, Virgil still feels like "the weird", but struggles to adjust to the others, and the others try their best to make Virgil feel welcome.
Sanders Sides is a spin-off of the Vine/ Sanders Short s series, such as Patton, Roman and Logan is a character who previously debuted in Vine in 2014, known as Father, Prince and Master respectively (these names, as noted above, are also used on Sanders Sides as nicknames , even though the nickname Teacher has much less than the other and the nickname Prince is changed to Princey ). There, each has their own Vine series. The Dad series begins on January 15, 2014, the Prince series begins on June 4, 2014, and the Master series begins on November 3, 2014, and all of these series are still running on Sanders Shorts. Virgil also occasionally appears in Vine and Sanders Shorts, but he is a native creation for Sanders Sides . Virgil does not have a series of his own and always appears as a secondary character in the Prince series or in the Sleep series. In later appearances, Thomas Sanders explains that Sanders Shorts' associates do not rely on Sanders Sides characters and only share physical appearance, but there is no canonical similarity between Sanders Shorts universe and Sanders Sides universe. In the first episode of Sanders Sides, Logan, Roman and Patton show the personality traits inherited from their Sanders Shorts peers, such as the less serious Logan and much happier than what will he be; Roman voiced a truly theatrical masculine voice all the time without any sign of soft hatred in his voice, instead sporting a thick foreign accent that was then lost; and Patton acts less like a child and more like a stupid adult. They will evolve when the series begins. However, between Sides, Virgil is one that has the most drastic evolution. He began as an evil antagonist who enjoyed the anxiety he caused on Thomas, and slowly softened, leaving behind threatening behavior before, until he revealed that he really cared about Thomas's health and he only meant to protect him, so it was accepted by the group. This, in Sanders's words, was the first Thomas symbol to refuse, then gradually accepted his anxiety as part of him.
In the first episode of Season 2, in addition to changes to the opening song and new logo specially designed for Sanders Sides, there is a bit of character redesign, which is starting to wear new costumes. All Sanders Sides, just like Thomas Sanders himself, started processing purple hair. Logan's polo shirt was replaced for a blacker shirt and the tie was adorned with blue stripes. Patton initially noticed a small change, other than occasionally tying his shoulder throughout the pajamas cat for a short time, but in the third episode he replaced an old cardigan on his shoulder for a cat hoodie also on his shoulders given to him in the story as a gift by Logan. Roman replaced her suit for a more stylish new one, similar in style, but with gold ornaments on her chest and on both shoulders and arms, longer neck, and a red line winding forming a ribbon on her left hip. Virgil's new costume is the one that sees the biggest change. She had a torn purple shirt, and a black hoodie on the outside and purple on the inside with pieces of purple checkered cloth stitched outside with the cost of a golden thread. Virgil's new costume is designed, dyed and hand sewn by Talyn and Joan Stokes themselves using existing clothing and cloth pieces. Virgil's makeup was also updated, like the previous eyeshadow, which was in fact done with a gray eyeliner pencil by Sanders himself, replaced by a darker eyeshadow, but the change had already happened in the last episode of season 1, when Talyn first stepped up as a makeup artist. With that change, Sanders Sides costumes began to showcase individual logos that identified them. Logan Logo consists of a white brain with sunglasses, Patton's logo consists of a white heart with a smile and sunglasses, the Roman logo is a medieval heraldic shield that marks the background of a bell with a castle surrounded by holes and the sun drawn inside or, and the Virgil logo consists of a purple cloud with lightning coming out of it. Except for Roman, whose logo appeared on both sleeves beside her shoulders, all the rest of the logo appeared on the left side of their chest. The new logo is officially aired at Sanders merchandising event on Broadway, New York, on 19 and 20 August 2017. This redesigned costume is only seen in the Sanders Sides series. The Sanders Shorts peers continue to wear the 1st season costumes they've always used since their first appearance in Vine, reinforcing the facts stated by Sanders that Sanders Shorts' associates are independent characters.
It's been hinted only at the end of season 1 that there are more Sides in Thomas than the four main sides. On February 3, 2018, in the fifth episode of season 2, the new Side finally appeared. He is known as Deceit, and represents a deliberate and unintentional lie that Thomas tells himself and others around him. Deceit hides, and can force others to hide, any information about Thomas that he, consciously or not, does not want to know, including the existence of the so-called "Dark Side", the dark aspect of Thomas's personality where Deceit will be one of them. Deceit can assume the shape of one side, disguised as Patton the first time he appears, but when assuming his original form, he wears a 19th-century costume inspired by Mr. Hyde, with a bowler hat, black capelet and bright yellow gloves. The right half of his face looks quite normal while the left half resembles a snake, having eyes with yellow iris and pupils, pink eyelids, the face from the forehead to the chin covered in greenish scales and scars that cross the cheek from the corner of the mouth to the ear. As Joan Stokes said in their Tumblr account, the costumes and makeup from Deceit were designed by them, while Talyn sewed the capelets themselves and applied makeup. Deceit is described as a sly character who can tell lies fluently and confidently, and seems to take some form of pleasure in lying beyond the stated role, which, in the episode, is said to be a self-preservation mechanism. Although Deceit can tell the truth on his own will or when he accidentally comes out of his mouth, and he can mix the truth with a lie to strengthen the lie, most of the time, everything he says is a lie. Whether the truth behind deceit given by Deceit is trustworthy or not depends on the situation and question being asked, relying more on what Thomas thinks is true of him at a certain moment than what it really is.
