Yoga nidra (Sanskrit: ??????? ) or yoga sleep ) is a state of awareness between waking and sleep, like a "going to sleep" stage. This is a state where the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematic and becomes more aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness (yoga nidra) is different from meditation where concentration in one focus is required. In yoga nidra, the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal from the five senses (pratyahara) with his four senses internalized, that is drawn, and only hearing is still connected with instruction. The purpose of yoga from both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation is the same, state of mindfulness meditation called samadhi.
Yoga nidra is one of the deepest conditions of relaxation possible while retaining full awareness. In lucid dreaming, a person is only, or especially, aware of the dream environment, and has little or no awareness of one's actual environment.
Yoga relaxation exercises have been found to reduce tension and anxiety. Autonomous symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, dizziness, chest pain, palpitations, sweats and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from the war overcome post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Yoga nidra refers to a conscious awareness of the condition of deep sleep, referred to as prajna in the Mandukya Upanishad.

The concept of nidra yoga is very ancient in Indian traditions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. God Krishna is often associated with yoga nidra in epic Mahabharata âââ ⬠. Similarly, many yogis and rishi should experience yoga during their lifetime.
In modern times, nidra yoga is experienced by Satyananda Saraswati when he lives with his teacher Sivananda Saraswati in Rishikesh. He began studying the tantric scriptures and, after practicing, built a relaxation system, which began to popularize in the mid-20th century. He describes yoga nidra as the state of mind between wakefulness and sleep that opens the deep phase of the mind, showing a connection with the ancient tantric practice called nyasa, where the Sanskrit mantra is mentally placed in certain body parts, while meditating on each part (of bodymind). The form of practice taught by Satyananda includes eight stages (internalization, sankalpa, consciousness rotation, awareness of breath, manifestation of the opposite, creative visualization, sankalpa and externalization).
Satyananda used this technique, along with advice, on the son who will be his successor, Niranjanananda Saraswati, from the age of four. He claimed to have taught him several languages ââwith this method.
