Happy Tree Friends is an animated flash series created and developed by Aubrey Ankrum, Rhode Montijo, Kenn Navarro and Warren Graff for Mondo Media. A total of five seasons of this series have been released: 4 seasons on the internet, and 1 season on television.

In 1999, the crew started the series with two pilot episodes. The first pilot named Banjo Frenzy , featuring a blue dinosaur, a sky blue squirrel, a yellow rabbit and a purple beaver. The second pilot was named Spin Fun Knowin 'Yes! and featuring versions of dinosaurs, rabbits, squirrels and otters and, from there, the crew began introducing new characters to the event. This is rapidly becoming an internet phenomenon that displays millions of visits per episode. The Happy Tree Friends television series that aired on G4 in the United States in 2006.

A spin-off named Ka-Pow! debuted in September 2008. In 2010, after airing fifteen episodes for the third web season, a hiatus began, in which only Break shorts were aired with subliminal messages at the end of each, which read "Tree Friends Happy is dead! ". This situation worries many fans because they think that the series will end soon. The authors assert that they are toying with the fact that the characters die a lot and make the phrase pronunciation with the word "dead". Hiatus ends on December 8, 2011 and the series returns once again with the fifteenth episode of the third season, which is named "Clause for Concern".

In addition to five season events and spin-offs, there are some special episodes and shorts. These include eleven "Smoochies", ten "Kringles", thirteen "Break" shorts, five "Love Bites", and sixteen other unregistered irregular episodes. The shorts "Smoochie" involves three different items dropped beside the main character, only for those killed in three different ways, each regarding the item. This has been adapted into the Happy Tree Friends website where one can select items to remove. The "Kringle" shorts are Christmas-themed shorts featuring the main characters performing various Christmas-related tasks, only to be killed in various ways. The "Love Bites" are Valentine's Day themed shorts, which run on the basic structure of the Happy Tree Friends episode. The "Break" shorts were produced in 2008, when no new episodes were produced until the following year. The new pause debuted in 2009.
