The Hunger Games Film Series is comprised of four science-dystopian science fiction films based on the Hunger Games novel trilogy, by American author, Suzanne Collins. Distributed by Lionsgate and produced by Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, she starred in Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, and Donald Sutherland as President Snow. Gary Ross directed the first film, while Francis Lawrence directed the next three films.
The first three films made recordings at the box office. The Hunger Games (2012) set the record for the opening day and the biggest opening weekend for non-sequel films. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) set a record for the biggest opening weekend in November. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) has the opening day and the biggest weekend of 2014. Movies, including The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015 ), received a positive reception from critics, with praise addressed to his theme and message, and Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of the main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen.

Development
After releasing Suzanne Collins 'novel The Hunger Games' novel, on September 14, 2008, Hollywood film studios began looking to adapt the book into the movie. In March 2009, Color Force, an independent studio founded by producer Nina Jacobson, bought the film rights for the book. Jacobson then sought out the Lionsgate production company to help him produce the film. Collins is also bound to adapt the novel; he started his first draft after completing the third novel in the series, Mockingjay (2010). The search for a director starts in 2010 with three directors in running; David Slade, Sam Mendes, and Gary Ross. Ross was eventually chosen to direct. By the time Collins finished his script, Ross decided to write a script with Collins and screenwriter Billy Ray.
In October 2010, the script was sent to the actors, and the casting took place between March and May 2011. The first cast was the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen. A total of 30 actresses are in talks to play the role, with Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, and ChloÃÆ'à ° Grace Moretz being called the most. The role was given to Lawrence.
The role of Peeta Mellark, the respect of fellow Katniss, and Gale Hawthorne, her best friend, began casting the end of that month. Top rivals for Peeta include Josh Hutcherson, Alexander Ludwig (later Cato), Hunter Parrish, Evan Peters, and Lucas Till. The competitors for Gale include Robbie Amell, Liam Hemsworth, David Henrie, and Drew Roy. On April 4, it was reported that Hemsworth had played Gale, and Hutcherson had played Peeta.

Production
Filming for the franchise begins on May 23, 2011 and finishes on June 20, 2014.
Suzanne Collins and Louise Rosner served as executive producers on the first two films. Other executive producers from the first film include Robin Bissell and Shantal Feghali. The co-producers are Diana Alvarez, Martin Cohen, Louis Phillips, Bryan Unkeless, and Aldric La'auli Porter. Color Force and Lionsgate collaborated in all four films. It was announced on November 1, 2012 that the studio has decided to split the last book, Mockingjay (2010), into two movies: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015), such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010) and 2 (2011 ), and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) and 2 (2012).
Board of Directors
Gary Ross directed his first film ( The Hunger Games ), and although originally stated otherwise on 10 April 2012, Lionsgate announced that Ross would not return to direct his sequel. On April 19, 2012, it is certain that Francis Lawrence will direct his sequel, and on November 1, 2012, he asserts that he will return and direct the last two movies in the series, based on the novel Mockingjay
Scripts
Suzanne Collins began adapting her first book for filming after she finished writing Mockingjay . Collins has experience in writing scenarios after writing Clifford's Puppy Days and other children's television shows. When Gary Ross was announced as a director for the film in 2010, he started working with Collins and veteran writer Billy Ray to live up this novel. The script is big and produces two hours and 20 minutes.
After Francis Lawrence took over as director, he took Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt to write a script for Fire Arrest .
The last two films of this series were written by Danny Strong and Peter Craig.
Casting
After three leads are cast, casting is transferred to another tribute. Jack Quaid plays Marvel, Leven Rambin as Glimmer, Amandla Stenberg as Rue, and Dayo Okeniyi as Thresh. Alexander Ludwig (who auditioned for Peeta) played Cato, Isabelle Fuhrman (who auditioned for Katniss) as Clove, and Jacqueline Emerson as Foxface. After casting tribute, the adult players started to gather. Elizabeth Banks acts as Effie Trinket, District 12 escort. Woody Harrelson plays Haymitch Abernathy, District 12 mentor. Lenny Kravitz plays Cinna, Katniss stylist. Wes Bentley plays the role of game maker Seneca Crane. Stanley Tucci plays Caesar Flickerman, host of the Panem celebrity. Donald Sutherland plays Coriolanus Snow, President of Panem. Willow Shields plays Primrose Everdeen, Katniss's sister.
In July 2012, the players for the second film were announced. Jena Malone will play Johanna Mason. Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee, Sam Claflin will play Finnick Odair. He later announced that Jeffrey Wright plays Beetee, Alan Ritchson as Gloss, Lynn Cohen as Mags, and Amanda Plummer as Wiress.
In August and September 2013, it was revealed that Stef Dawson will play Annie Cresta, Natalie Dormer will play Cressida, Evan Ross will play Messalla, and Julianne Moore will play President Alma Coin in the last two films.
Filming
The subject of photography for The Hunger Games began on May 24, 2011 and ended on September 15, 2011. The entire film for the first film took place in North Carolina including the following cities; Asheville, Barnardsville, Black Mountain, Cedar Mountain, Charlotte, Concord, Hildebran, and Shelby. All Game scenes are filmed on location. All the Capitol scenes were filmed in a studio in Shelby and Charlotte, North Carolina.
The main photography for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins on September 10, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia and ends in April 2013. In November 2012, production was moved to Hawaii to film the arena scene. The filming took a Christmas break before filming resumed for two weeks in mid-January. In March 2013, the film returns to Hawaii for a re-shoot. Atlanta is used for all scenes Capitol, Hawaii for arena scenes, and Oakland, New Jersey for District 12 scenes.
The subject of photography for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay begins on September 23, 2013 and ends on June 20, 2014. The majority of filming for Mockingjay films was filmed on soundstage in a studio in Atlanta, until April 18, 2014. Production then moved to Paris, France, with filming starting there on May 5, 2014.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays Plutarch Heavensbee, was found dead on February 2, 2014. At the time of his death, he has finished filming for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and has weeks left of shooting for > Part 2 . Lionsgate released a statement stating that, since the majority of Hoffman's scenes are complete, the release date for Part 2 will not be affected.

Together with another 12 District colleagues, Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen returned home safely after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Feast. Victory means that they have to leave their loved ones behind and start the Victory Tour across the district. Along the way, Katniss felt a boiling rebellion - one that she and Peeta might have created - but the Capitol is still in control as President Snow prepares for the 75th Hunger Games - Quarter Quell - which can change Panem forever.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014)
Katniss Everdeen found herself in District 13 after she destroyed the game forever. Under the leadership of President Alma Coin and advice from trusted friends, Katniss expanded her wings as she struggled to save Peeta, along with other winners and a nation driven by her courage.

All Hunger Games movies finished first at the North American box office during the opening and second weekend. In North America, the Hunger Games movie series is the second best-selling series based on a young adult book, after the Harry Potter series, generating more than $ 1.4 billion. Across the globe, it is the third best-selling series based on young adult books after the Harry Potter movie series and The Twilight Saga, respectively, after earning more than $ 2 , 9 billion. In North America, this is the eighth best-selling movie franchise of all time. Worldwide, this is the 15th or 16th franchise of all time.
Critical and public responses
All Hunger Games films receive a "Fresh Rating" on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with the first two films receiving the "Certified Ranking" stub.
